American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), also
referred to as the federal stimulus bill, was signed into law by
President Obama on February 17, 2009. This legislation offers
various spending plans and tax breaks that are directly related to
economic and infrastructure development. This site provides

Governor Tim Kaine and the General Assembly are continuing their
process of determining how the federal stimulus funds will be

The DEQ, through a
conference call, linked together
local governments and
municipal water and wastewater agencies and brought them up to speed on the
clean water State Revolving Fund (SRF) and how it will be impacted by
the stimulus package.

Summary
The VDH, through the EPA, will receive approximately $21 million
from the ARRA of 2009. These funds will be authorized for capitalization
grants in the Virginia Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund (DWSRF)

Transportation Funds
VDOT Update - June 17, 2009
On June 17, VDOT representatives provided to the Commonwealth
Transportation Board (CTB) an additional update on Stimulus project
recommendations. This update notes that of the $576 million ARRA
funds awarded to VDOT, $532 million has been approved by the CTB and
there is $44 million left to obligate to additional ARRA highway
construction funds. The CTB will be meeting on June 18 to
allocate and approve the additional projects.

On May 20, VDOT representatives presented to the Commonwealth
Transportation Board (CTB) additional Stimulus project
recommendations. This update provides federal and state Recovery
Act highway priorities and project recommendations.

VDOT Update - April 15, 2009
Below is an update from VDOT regarding the distribution of ARRA of
2009 stimulus funds.
Highlighted in
the update is that Virginia will receive $694.5 million for Highways.
VDOT has developed its recommended statewide project lists, consulted
with Federal, State and local officials and will now present to the
Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) for its review and approval.
The areas of recommended projects consist of:
● Mandatory Enhancements of
trails related to tourism and economic development;
● Defense
Base Closure and Realignment (BRAC);
●
Structurally Deficient Bridges;
●
Deficient Bridges;
●
Deficient Pavements; and
●
Design/Build Construction.
Once approved by
the CTB, the recommendations will be presented to the Governor and
then forwarded to the U.S. Department of Transportation and the
Federal Highway Administration for obligation of funds.
Stimulus Update - April 15, 2009
On March 18, 2009 VDOT Representatives presented to the Commonwealth
Transportation Board (CTB) an overview of the highway funding Stimulus
funds. Secretary Homer indicated that the Department is
still in the process of deciding which projects will be funded within
the State priorities, which include: structurally deficient bridges,
deficient pavement, BRAC projects, cancelled/delayed construction
projects, and citizen suggestions.

Virginia Public Schools
Through the ARRA Virginia school systems will receive approximately
$730.4 million in stimulus funds which will be distributed to Virginia
school divisions by formula based on the federal law. Virginia is also
receiving $281.4 million in funding for special education.
