Lynchburg company awarded $16.9 million to replace bridges on Route 29
A Lynchburg business has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract to replace the bridges on Route 29 north and south over Norfolk-Southern Railroad in the City of Lynchburg.
TheCommonwealth Transportation Board announced at its May meeting that W.C. English, Inc. was awarded a $16.9 million contract for the project.
The bridges, commonly called the “Jumbo Bridges,” are located near the Falwell Airport and carry over 38,000 vehicles a day. The Route 29 northbound structure was built in 1953 and is in fair condition, VDOT said. The southbound structure was built in 1936 and is in poor condition, VDOT added.
