This is a NCDOT project located on US Highway 17 northeast of Elizabeth City, NC, in Pasquotank County. Two functionally obsolete bridges will be replaced by one 4-lane, 746 feet by 71 feet, 12-span bridge. The new bridge will be built in stages over Knobb’s Creek and the adjacent wetlands which will require access and construction techniques to minimize the environmental impact.

The new bridge will be founded on steel pile substructure with prestressed girders and concrete superstructure. The existing waterline on the bridge will be relocated by directionally drilling under Knobb’s Creek. The approaches will be rebuilt including new signalization at the intersections.
