This is a design-build project located on the northbound lanes of I-81 from mile marker 195.6 to 202.5 in the Fairfield area, just north of Lexington. The 6.967-mile-long project will add a truck-climbing lane in this location, along with the replacement of three bridges. This location on I-81 northbound has one of the longest and steepest uphill grades, a higher-than-average crash number compared to other uphill grades, and low operating speeds for trucks. The project was designed from the ground up. This allows us to develop innovative ways to construct the project and make the construction process more efficient, as well as incorporate creative ways to solve problems found in the field.
